Crime Trend: Jugging

Updated: Jun 14, 2023

"Jugging" is a trending crime where criminals wait in parking lots of stores, malls, and banks to hunt for potential victims who have something of value, then follow them to a location where they can carry out a robbery and often, accompanying violence.

The Houston woman in this video was jugged and brutally body slammed and left paralyzed after two teens followed her by car from a bank to a nearby business to steal an envelope of money which she had withdrawn from the bank.

"What's old is new. It's like pickpockets. They've been around forever, but they're coming up with new ways to be able to engage folks to steal property. Most of them want an easy way to grab a purse, a wallet or a phone. They want to grab something and run. The thieves look for people who have items on them. It's not just the elderly. They're now looking for people who are younger who maybe came out of a high-end purse store or just bought an iPhone. Everyone is a prime victim today when they have something of value. One of the prime things is trying to get locations where there are no witnesses. They want to strike without any witnesses and pick their spots, so they can't be chased down or allow someone to get their description. Those are sophisticated thieves and tend to be more violent. Those are the ones you have to be diligent of."

The violence carried out against this Houston woman is difficult to see and accept; however, it's tragically a permanent reality for her. Criminals don't value your life or property, and without conscience, they will violently do whatever it takes to get what they want. Prayers for this Houston woman, that she will fully recover, and that her attackers receive their due justice.
